If you are looking for a local midwife you can try the below options.
This map has been collected by various local homebirth advocacy groups, our committee’s knowledge, and HBNSW survey responses. If you find that the details are incorrect, please contact us so we can keep this up to date. The blue markers are for midwives and practices, and the purple markers indicate publicly funded homebirth services run via hospitals. Hospital based programs providing homebirth services are financially covered by the public system, but tend to be more restrictive in acceptance criteria and locations served.
We have tried to include information as to if the midwives are registered and/or endorsed.
- Registered = A Midwife who has registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia.
- Endorsed = A Midwife who, due to fulfilling a registration standard (at least 5000 hours of practice in last 6 years, 30 hours per year of additional professional development and additional training to be able to prescribe, supply and administer medications), can provide medicare rebatable care to families and order diagnostic testing and (eg blood tests, ultrasounds) as required.
