Sara Wickham and Professor Andrew Bisits

Sara Wickham, PhD, is an Independent Midwifery Lecturer and Consultant based in the UK. Having practised as a midwife in the UK and US, she now focuses on teaching, speaking, writing and research as well as independent practise.

Professor Andrew Bisits was appointed Director, Maternity Services Division at the Royal Hospital for Women, Sydney 2010. His skills include reproductive medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology, and biostatistics. As a teacher he is committed to communicating scientific results to students and in encouraging a robust research environment in the clinical area. A/Prof Bisits has become a world authority and renowned teacher in the field of breech birth.

Masters of ceremony -

Catherine Deveny is a comedian, author, professional speaker and broadcaster well known for her work as columnist with The Age newspaper and as a ABC regular on shows like Q&A. She is now a columnist with the Guardian.

She is a Melbourne International Comedy Festival Regular and appeared in the second series of Go Back To Where You Come From on SBS TV. Her long awaited first novel and seventh book, The Happiness Show was published in November 2012 by Black Inc Books.

The 29th Homebirth Conference – Homebirth- Own Birth is for midwives, midwifery students, doulas, women, men and doctors interested in homebirth.

We have speakers from the midwifery and medical profession, as well as consumers, doulas and birth advocates.

Receipts will be emailed out after payment has been received. Payment must be received prior to the cut off dates for early bird and standard registrations.


Cancellation Policy

Registration cancellations will be accepted prior to the 31 January 2014.

Cancellations between 31 January and 1 March 2014 will incur a $100 fee.

Cancellations after the 1st March 2014 will incur a $300 fee.

Cancellations for the Conference Dinner after 1 March 2014 will not receive a refund unless we are able to resell to another delegate.



Registrations entitle you to entry to all sessions, entry to exhibitions, conference materials, 1 years membership to Homebirth Australia, morning and afternoon tea, lunch and tea and coffee on arrival throughout the 2 day conference.

The Conference dinner is a separate fee.



Brisbane City Hall: the venue for the conference. It is located adjacent to King George Square, the main entrance. The City Hall also has entrances in both Ann Street and Adelaide Street.

The Pullman Hotel (is located across the road from the Ann St entrance to Brisbane City Hall), is offering special discounted rates for delegates of the Homebirth Australia 2014 Conference. They are $145 per night for a room in the Mecure Tower and $205 per night for a room in the Pullman Tower. When booking please note you are staying for the HBA conference
